The Big Secret - DevLog #1

Imagem
My first big project is starting and needs to be ready by the end of September, will be a longer journey than my previous projects but a welcomed one. The game will be about a captain of a spaceship that needs to discover what's inside of "The Big Secret" box that is on its cockpit. To do that he'll be around the spaceship looking for 5 pieces of a puzzle that unlocks the box. Right now the game only has little to no content besides the captain being able to move, the camera being able to follow the captain and some NPC's that for now don't even do anything. Frogger Clone

After some logs here time was getting short since this game was a project for school and had a date limit. It was great to learn more about Unity itself and get more knowledge of how to deal with bugs and overall workflow. The game still has multiple minor bugs that actually couldn't be bothered to fix due to the time pressure, maybe I start doing Frogger clones every year just to see the improvement who knows. Inspired on the game Frogger for the Atari, you'll need to try to get the frog to its home on the other side of the river without getting CRUSHED by cars or FALLING into the depths of the river! Was some time away from the project and now I'll have just a week to finish it, time to speed up.  Now the frogs moves, but way too fast. Link: Not Published Published on: Not Published Genre: Platformer/Action/Arcade Engine: Unity Role: Solo Game #4

Frogger Clone - DevLog #2

Continued doing the Frogger Clone following the same tutorial but didn't like how it was going so I drifted to another tutorial on grid movement and that's everything I've done for the day, not much progress but at least I got some basic code going. At least now I got a frog in frogger :D Link: Not Published Published on: Not Published Genre: Platformer/Action/Arcade Engine: Unity Role: Solo Game #4

Frogger Clone - DevLog #01

I started working on my Frogger Clone for a project I need to send in 2 weeks (and a lil'bit) even though I knew I had to do it for at least 5 months (but due to the pandemic it got postponed and University had priority). Today I started my journey on creating a Frogger Clone by following Sloan Kelly 's tutorial on making the game. With my little knowledge I drifted away from the tutorial when I thought adequate, like using a tilemap instead of putting every tile in its place. He's following the original tileset he got from somewhere but I think I'll be redoing the tileset in the end if I have the time, really want something with little colour, like a purple-greenish pallette to make the game feel more arcade-y. In the middle of my Uni exams was  the Global Game Jam 2020 going from the 29th of January until the 31st of January and the school I was going was a hosting place. I decided to go nevertheless since it would be fun and I had time to study later. It was hella fun, most of my class went and some more people joined us,  people that never worked on a game before. Well, what started as a "One Team, One Class Game" became a "Two Teams of Jammers, One Class and some random people that appeared". I was a Game Designer and Level Designer for the team but also participated in some little pieces for the Art, Programming and even "Marketing" (aka preparing to upload the game while there's an hour left and everyone's way too tired and doing multiple stuff at once in crunch mode). The most fun part was the feeling of learning what makes a good and a bad team, communication. And communication was the break factor of the team, one person didn't communicate...

Life - Everything Wants to Kill You

"My CS Degree won't teach me everything I need to be a Game Developer, I must go all-in." And all-in I went, continued for the second year of my CS Degree but enrolled on a private school on a videogames course to give me the push. This game is the first project I made for the course as I learned the basics of game development on an intuitive engine, Construct 2. I faced a problem while doing this project, time. As it was due for the beginning of the year, before Uni exams but after Uni classes I was both celebrating Christmas and New Year's aswell as taking the break I needed to go head in for the mid-January exams. With all this all I had was about 2 days to make a game from start to finish (and it wasn't even a Game Jam). As I was so stressed I got the motto for the game: "Well life is about everything wanting to kill you." And there it was born a blue square that couldn't even jump but needed to get to a "Orb" needed to learn po...

"How To Make a Video Game" Brackeys Game

As I was doing bad on my first year of the CS Degree I decided to learn how to make games since that is what I really want to do in life. I started waking up really early to learn  how to make a simple game in Unity before I needed to go to University to have my classes. Using a tutorial by Brackeys I managed to copy his game and learn the basics of Unity. In this game you play as a little cube in a racetrack and must stay on the track while avoiding crashing against obstacles. There are 3 levels with harder obstacles for each one.
